Unveiling the secrets of Karst
Where the sun strokes the picturesque Mediterranean towns on the Adriatic coast. Its rays are infatuated with the beauty of the Karst region, a limestone plateau famous for its underworld phenomena, planted with olive groves and vineyards. In the cellars of the stone houses excellent wines are poured and sold, and in the attics excellent ham called “pršut” is cured in the bora wind.
Program: We depart from Ljubljana and drive by bus past the town of Sežana to Kobjeglava, where we visit the ham-curing plant and taste the delicious “pršut” with teran, a specific red wine from Karst region. We stop in a small but amiable town of Štanjel, probably the oldest settlement on Karst, with Renaissance-Baroque castle, late Gothic church and numerous stonemasonry elements that make the impression even more interesting. After a stroll through the town we have a delicious lunch in a renowned restaurant. Last but not least, we stop in a wine cellar of one of the prominent winegrowers in the region, and enjoy the degustation of excellent wines. Full of impressions we return to Ljubljana.
