Slovenia promo spot / broadcasted on CNN / Europe / commentary by Ian MacArol
12.5.2006 at 9:42 by admin
A Quick link to the new Slovenia promo spot now broadcasting on CNN. A project worth almost 800.000 euros, tells as more abstract story about Slovenia. Many professionals among advertisers are not quite shore if this is a right way of telling the “story” about Slovenia.

In general; quite nice shoots put together and a cool song… and here comes the problem. Is Slovenia excualy Mongolia?! Where is the real ethnic story? Definition that we are Europeans, member so EU. Such a spot puts us in the middle age. Or somewhere in ASIA. (Tells us an advertising professional and owner of GenY Communications Ian MacArol). The first thing, when I saw the spot, is that really a country I am living in. In general nice shots, a flair of middle age couture. However, the basic problem is that this is not the Slovenia, that would be recognized by any turst visiting our country. The expectation when seeing the spot, of anyone who does not now Slovenia is that Slovenia is a country for adventures. Everything is still done by hand. Even traveling is a little bit old fashioned and done mostly by horses. The commercial is very uncreative / there is no end or conclusion. There’s no mind game that should be the basic for such advertising. When you see the commercial its joust a diversity to discover. A slogan which is actually really confusing in terms of use of English word (diversity). (diversity of coulture?!)
The spot doesn’t work in any version exspacially in short versions, that are technically done in a terrible way. The shorts are simply not worthy of publishing even on internet.
This commercial would function only as a music video spot broadcasted on MTV, but not as commercial for CNN.  An idea that is even not so bad & would be actually free.
“I simply don’t understand” concludes Ian MacArol.

Judge for your self!  A quick link to the new commercial:
