Slovenia on visiteurope.com

The Republic of Slovenia lies between Venice and Vienna, at the junction of three basic European landscape types where the Alps and the Mediterranean meet the Pannonian plains. A green country boasts all diversity of the Old World.

As a small, beautiful and picturesque country, Slovenia makes a great tourist destination. Mountains, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, forests, caves, hills, plains, thermal springs and the sea: you name it, you can find it all within Slovenia - half the size of Switzerland. Above Triglav National Park, four regional and many natural and landscape parks the sun shines approximately 2000 hours per year. And, there is also up to four months winter season every year.

You can ski in Slovenian Alps in the morning and surrender yourself to the short but picturesque Mediterranean Adriatic Seaside in the afternoon. Or you can indulge yourself in the warmth of several natural thermal springs and end your evening in a richly stocked wine cellar at the edge of the Pannonian plain. You can travel through time all day long in museums, castles, churches and art galleries or enjoy the evening out in one of Europe's best casinos.

Enjoy Ljubljana - one of the youngest capitals in Central Europe - a city of the Baroque and the Art Nouveau, exciting, playful and beautiful. Or visit Bled, the pearl of the Julian Alps, a jewel among the Alpine resorts. All over Slovenia you can practice hiking, cycling and play golf. You can also enjoy active water sports on emerald Soca and other rivers.

Travelling through mysterious Carst you will find Lipica Stud Farm, dating from the 16th century, home to the famous Lipizzaner Horses and you will also discover Postojna cave, a world famous miracle of nature.

At the delightful Mediterranean city of Piran with ‘the Port of Roses' or Portoroz riviera you would enjoy the springs and mud baths. You can also take a walk among the beauty of Sečovlje salt-pans, a unique natural and cultural heritage.

Piran, together with Ptuj, Maribor, Škofja Loka, Kranj, Novo mesto, Ljubljana form a net of medieval cities and sceneries for thousands of events throughout the year.

Eastern and southern parts, Stajerska and Dolenjska with Bela Krajina offer more possibilities for exploring wine growing and spas regions of green Slovenia.
